Fully assembled glass block windows

Fully assembled glass block windows

Did you know that we sell fully assembled custom made glass block windows?

Pacific Glass Block Windows, LLC, is a glass block window manufacturer. What we mean by this is that we make customized glass block windows with frames.

After you have determined the size of window frame you need, the next step in creating a custom-made real glass block window frame is to choose the series you prefer to fit your needs.

The Premier Series glass block window is made from full 3” thick REAL glass blocks with powder-coated thermally enhanced aluminum frames. The Builders Series glass block window is made from economical 2” thick REAL glass blocks with heavy-duty extruded vinyl frames or thermally enhanced aluminum frames that offer all the benefits of our vinyl frames, plus superior performance in the very hot environments.

Next, choose the pattern of glass block from which you would like your window made. There are five patterns from which to choose in our Premier Series – Clarity, Pearl, Wave, Cross-rib, and Diamond. Our Builders Series has three patterns from which to choose – Wave, Ice, and Frost.

After you have chosen your preferred real glass block pattern, you then choose the type and color of frame you would like. There are a variety of color combinations from which to choose.

Our exclusive 3-piece Premier Series aluminum frames were developed to allow separate colors for exterior and interior sides, and block energy transference with our thermally enhanced design. Powder-coat finishes will perform much better, especially in high use areas like baths and showers, because of their extreme durability.

Our heavy-duty Builder Series vinyl frames are profiled to shed water away from the glass on both sides, so the water won’t pool, and the glass and frame components will dry quickly after use so materials will not degrade from moisture over time.

We don’t sell individual glass blocks, we create one-of-a-kind custom-builtfully assembled glass block windows that are works of art, which will beautify your home or place of business that will last a lifetime.

Glass Block Windows Back In Style

Glass Block Windows Back In Style

The love affair with glass block windows started in the late 1800’s. But as time passed, the fashion became outdated as architect styles developed. However, due to ever-changing fads and fashions, glass block windows are now back in style!

For many years, standard clear glass windows were the norm when designing exterior windows for bathrooms and homes. However, trends in real estate indicate that new homeowners desire to bring back the style of the 1940s and are considering glass block windows more and more.

But do these glass block windows present many advantages to your home? Although some builders and architects don’t think they do, here at Pacific Glass Block Windows, we believe there are several advantages to having real glass blocks installed in your home:

• Real glass block windows provide energy-efficient lighting. Conventional glass windows

do not always provide adequate lighting, which means you may incur higher energy

costs, especially if a particular room needs to have lights on throughout the day.

• In addition, real glass block windows offer thermal insulation that prohibit air

infiltration, which can save approximately 25% of the heat that is lost through conventional windows.

• If you need to illuminate a large interior space, an exterior real glass block window wall

can be used to bring light into your indoor space with little additional cost.

• Safety and security are always a concern of home and business owners. Pacific Glass Block windows are strong and offer excellent protection from the harsh elements mother nature can throw at us.

• Privacy is another concern with conventional glass windows. To make sure no one can see inside, the exterior window must be installed high in the wall or covered with blinds or curtains. But with a real glass block window from Pacific Glass Block Windows, privacy is ensured by blocking the view inside while letting in the light.

• Pacific Glass Block Windows provide years of low-cost maintenance. There is no need for expensive cleaners; merely wash with a mild soap and rinse with water and you’re done. In addition, because there are no edges, dirt can’t build up making it easier to clean.

For your next new home or if you’re remodeling an older one, consider all the advantages and benefits you gain with real glass block windows from Pacific Glass Block Window.

Choosing the Right Glass Block Design for Your Specific Needs

Choosing the Right Glass Block Design for Your Specific Needs

Whether building a new home or remodeling an older one, there are several things to consider when choosing real glass blocks for your project. Pacific Glass Block Windows has several options from which to choose, and we are more than happy to help you choose the right glass block in order to achieve the look and functionality you desire.

All glass block windows let in light, but what other function do you want them to perform? Do you want them to be an artistic statement? Are you wanting your glass block windows to provide privacy and safety while helping with energy costs? All of our real glass block windows are energy saving, which can help reduce your heating and cooling costs.

Safety and privacy are important to us here at Pacific Glass Block Windows and we will customize the order for your project to achieve these tasks. Pacific Glass Block Windows offer two thicknesses of real glass blocks. Our economical Builder Series are 2 inches thick and our Premier Series are 3 inches thick. Both are strong and durable, and are very low maintenance glass blocks. Our Builder Series comes with heavy-duty extruded vinyl frames or optional powder-coated aluminum, and our Premier Series comes with powder-coated thermally enhanced aluminum frames, each in your choice of block styles and frame colors.

Choosing a pattern for the room in which you are going to install the real glass block windows is also a must. Pacific Glass Block Windows has five patterns in the Premier Series and three patterns in the Builders Series. Each of the patterns gives a different effect.

The Wave pattern is the most popular for basement windows. This pattern offers privacy while still allowing light to filter in.

The Clarity pattern does not offer privacy and are normally used areas that need to be well lit, such as kitchens and laundry rooms.

Ice and Frosted patterned glass block windows are perfect for bathrooms, as they allow privacy and light.

The Diamond glass block pattern provides maximum privacy while dispersing light throughout the room in which they are installed.

The patterns listed above are just a few of those that Pacific Glass Block Windows carries. Please check out our website for more real glass block pattern and frame colors.

The History of Glass Blocks

The History of Glass Blocks

During the 19th Century, the original form of hand-blown glass blocks provided beauty, safety, and security to an otherwise dark environment. Glass became a highly appreciated choice and gained a good reputation for its function as a light-admitting material for skylights and walls segments while still providing privacy and protection.

In the early history of glass blocks before electricity was used on ships, “deck prisms” were added to nautical vessels, which allowed natural light into the areas below the deck. In this respect, glass blocks added to the safety of the vessels by thus reducing the risk of fires that could happen with candles and oil lamps.

In cities, glass blocks were used as “sidewalk lights” or “vault lights.” The blocks were imbedded into the sidewalk to allow natural, diffused light into the storage rooms or shipping and receiving rooms below the sidewalks. Because these rooms were usually without windows, they benefited from the natural lighting that came in through the “sidewalk lights.”

However, as a low-maintenance construction material, the toughness and permanence of glass blocks for a wider range of uses was limited.

In the early part of the 20th Century, the German company, Deutsche Luxfer-Prismen-Gesellschaft patented a process to strengthen the material into glass blocks. This was done by fusing two pieces of glass into a solitary piece. When the two pieces of glass were joined producing a hollow center, a partial vacuum was created which improved the block’s insulating qualities.

Pacific Glass Block Windows uses these low-maintenance glass blocks allowing our fully assemble glass blocks windows to boost:

  • Safety
  • Security
  • Sound deadening
  • Energy insulation

This evolution of the glass block meant that the new form could be used in the construction of buildings similar to concrete blocks. When compared to other building materials, our REAL glass block windows are cost effective and easy to install.

Real Glass Block vs Acrylic Block

Real Glass Block vs Acrylic Block

In the world of block windows you have only 2 choices, Real glass or Acrylic (plastic). So what are the key differences?

With Real glass blocks you get greater durability, easier cleaning, and no fading or yellowing over time. There are no restrictions on what cleaning products you can use on glass, just use what you would on the rest of the bathroom or kitchen.

By design real glass blocks are stronger and more chip and crack resistant than the Acrylic counterpart.

Acrylic blocks are lighter than glass blocks, however that seems to be the only advantage they have! With acrylic, you have to be careful of what cleaners you use, as they are easily scratched and will haze and yellow if you get to strong of chemical on them.

They will yellow over time even if you are meticulous about how you clean them. Acrylic has a tendancy to crack if exposed to house shifting or being hit by most anything.

This is definitely one case where Real glass beats Acrylic (plastic) hands down!

Here at Pacific Glass Block Windows, we ONLY sell high quality REAL glass blocks that will enhance the beauity of your home and will last a lifetime!
